| Obverse description | Plain cross with abbreviated Christological inscription in the four angles: I - S / A - 8, representing IesuS / Alpha-Omega, a devotional formula invoking Christ as beginning and end. The design is enclosed within a double beaded circle, beyond which an illusionary or pseudo-legend border runs along the periphery. The execution is characteristic of Austrian bracteate-influenced coinage of the early twelfth century. |
