Obverse description Central field displays the Heunburg coat of arms featuring three stars, enclosed within a trefoil border. The initial letter V appears above the shield, with L positioned to the right and R to the left, forming the abbreviation of the issuer's name. Gothic foliate ornaments occupy the outer corners of the design. The entire composition is struck in the late Gothic style typical of Austrian Pfennig coinage of the mid-fifteenth century. This uniface issue is crudely struck on an irregular flan, consistent with contemporary hammered small silver coinage.

Additional information

Ulrich II of Cilli was one of the most powerful magnates in the Holy Roman Empire during the mid-fifteenth century, his influence extending deep into Hungary and the Balkans through strategic marriages and a close — ultimately fatal — relationship with the Hungarian court. He was assassinated in Belgrade in November 1456, almost certainly on the orders of László Hunyadi, ending the Cilli line entirely. This pfennig circulated during the years Ulrich was pressing his family's claims most aggressively, making it a product of a house at both its peak and its extinction.
