Obverse description Central motif of a crested tournament helmet surmounted by spread eagle wings, flanked on either side by a heraldic shield in low relief. The composition is rendered in the bold, somewhat schematic style characteristic of mid-13th century Styrian bracteate-influenced pfennigs. The overall design occupies the full field of the irregularly shaped flan, with no surrounding legend or inscription. The relief is shallow and the strike uneven, consistent with hand-hammered coinage of the period.
