Obverse description A leopard-lion passant to the left occupies the central field, with an eagle displayed below. A circular legend in Latin characters is inscribed in the outer annulus, contained between two concentric beaded or linear circles, lending a framed appearance characteristic of medieval Austrian bracteate-style pfennigs.

Reverse description A fortified tower with three broad merloned battlements is depicted upon a hillock or mound at center, flanked on either side by an eagle facing inward toward the tower. The composition is enclosed within a double beaded circle, a typical border convention for hammered coinage of the Duchy of Merania in the early thirteenth century.
