| Additional information |
Johann II Senn von Münsingen served as Bishop of Basel from 1335 to 1365, a tenure shaped by the catastrophic disruptions of the Black Death, which struck the Rhine valley with particular violence in 1348–1349 and killed an estimated third of Basel's population. Episcopal minting authority in the region was already contested against the city's growing commercial power, and coinage from this period reflects an institution under sustained pressure to maintain relevance as a monetary issuer.
The extensive reference concordance — six catalogues — suggests this type is well-documented but not especially rare in collections, having circulated widely across the Upper Rhine trade network.
