Obverse description Uniface hammered pfennig struck at Vienna under Duke Frederick V. The central device features a heraldic shield set within a trefoil frame, with the Gothic initials F, R, and I disposed in the three angles of the trefoil, separated by Gothic foliate ornaments. The shield likely bears the Austrian fess. The coin is struck on an irregularly shaped flan typical of mid-15th century Austrian pfennige, with a heavily worn surface consistent with extensive circulation.
