Albert VI held Austria only through prolonged conflict with his brother Frederick III, whose imperial authority he openly defied for most of the 1450s. The Enns mint operated under Albert's direct control during these years of fraternal civil war, making this small denomination a product of genuinely contested sovereignty rather than routine administration. The brothers reached a formal partition agreement in 1458, which brackets the opening of this issue's date range precisely.
