Obverse description The obverse displays the bear of Bern passant to the left, rendered in a crude, archaic style characteristic of small hammered billon coinage of the period. Above the bear, a spread eagle with wings displayed is visible in the upper field. The design is set within a beaded or pellet border, with additional pellets distributed around the periphery of the irregular flan. The overall execution is typical of late 16th to 17th century Swiss municipal coinage, with flat relief and a roughly circular, uneven flan.
