| Obverse description | A bear depicted in profile facing left, rendered in a stylized Romanesque manner typical of early medieval Swiss coinage. Three pellets are arranged in a triangular group above the animal's back, serving as a heraldic punctuation element. The bear, emblem of the city of Bern, occupies the central field and is enclosed within a beaded or plain inner circle.
