Obverse description Central field features the Genoese castle (Castello), a stylised crenellated tower rendered in low relief in the Gothic manner, surmounted by a small cross finial. Below the castle appears a crescent or lunette device. The central device is surrounded by a beaded inner circle, beyond which runs the peripheral legend in uncial Latin letters separated by floral rosette stops. The hammered flan is irregular in outline, as typical of mid-15th-century Genoese billon coinage.
