| Obverse description | Facing head of a lion rendered en face, filling the entire field, with boldly modelled mane radiating outward in stylized striations around the skull. The broad muzzle is depicted with open jaws, bared teeth, and deeply incised nostrils, conveying a ferocious aspect characteristic of Rhegion's civic bronze coinage of the late fifth century BC. The eyes are prominent and deeply set, flanked by pronounced cheekbones, executed in a vigorous archaic-to-early Classical style. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse. |
