Obverse description Confronted busts: on the right, the laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing left, and on the left, the laureate and draped bust of the god Serapis facing right, wearing a tall kalathos (modius) upon his head. The two effigies face one another across the field in a characteristic provincial jugate-confronted arrangement. The surrounding Greek legend names both the emperor and the civic authority.

Reverse description Apollo stands facing, his head turned to the right, raising his right hand to rest upon his head in a gesture of repose, while his left hand holds a bow. To the left of the figure, the mark of value E (epsilon, denoting five assaria) and a quiver are visible in the field. To the right, a serpent is depicted coiled around a tree stump, a motif associated with healing divinity. The composition is characteristic of provincial Moesian bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD.
