Obverse description Facing crowned bust of King William II, depicted in a schematic Anglo-Norman hammered style, with stylised facial features including pellet eyes and a broad nose. The king holds a sceptre before him in his right hand. A diadem or crown with a central projection is visible above the head, and the surrounding field retains traces of a Latin legend. The portrait is rendered in the flat, hieratic manner characteristic of late eleventh-century English coinage.
