| Obverse description | Inscribed type penny with no central portrait. The obverse features a central double-line circle enclosing a two-line inscription reading 'DO / RO' (Dorobernia, i.e. Canterbury), rendered in angular Anglo-Saxon majuscule lettering. Surrounding the inner circle is a broad outer legend reading +PLEGMVND ARCHIEP DO RO, separated by the inner beaded border and set within the coin's irregular hammered flan. The lettering is characteristic of late ninth- to early tenth-century Canterbury ecclesiastical coinage, with the legend identifying Archbishop Plegmund as issuer. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays a two-line inscription across the field in bold Anglo-Saxon majuscule characters, reading ELFSTAN MO (Elfstan, moneyer), arranged in two horizontal registers. The legend is set within a plain inner border and surrounded by a beaded outer border on the irregular hammered flan. This non-portrait, inscription-only reverse format is characteristic of the Class I issue struck under Archbishop Plegmund at Canterbury, identifying the responsible moneyer in accordance with contemporary Anglo-Saxon monetary practice. |
