Reverse description A voided short cross with double lines divides the field into four quarters, each containing a boldly rendered forward-facing eagle with spread wings, standing atop the cross arms — a distinctive motif giving this issue its 'Sovereign/Eagles' type designation. The moneyer and mint name appear in a Latin legend around the periphery, separated by annulets, within a beaded border. The design is executed in the robust, stylized manner typical of mid-eleventh-century English hammered silver pennies.
