Additional information

Eadred ruled for less than a decade and spent much of it suppressing Northumbrian resistance to West Saxon dominance — the region flip-flopped between English and Viking control three times during his reign alone. Coins from the Norwich mint in this period reflect the administrative consolidation of East Anglia under the West Saxon crown, a process still fragile enough that local moneyers retained considerable autonomy in execution.

North 715 encompasses enough variation in letter forms and cross types across moneyers that die-matching remains an active area of study. Norwich output from Eadred's reign survives in very small numbers.
