Additional information

Robert of Thourotte was elected Prince-Bishop of Liège in 1240 after a career that included serving as Bishop of Langres and a stint as a crusader. His tenure coincided with persistent friction between the prince-bishops and the burghers of Huy, one of the oldest minting towns in the Low Countries — Huy had held coinage rights since at least the tenth century. This denier belongs to a short six-year window before Robert's death in 1246.
