Reverse description A bold voided short cross pattée divides the reverse into four quadrants, each containing a letter of the word CRUX arranged one per quarter, forming the type-name of this issue. The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend records the moneyer's name and mint, reading + EDRIC M-O EΛXE, identifying the moneyer Edric operating at the Exeter mint. The design is typical of the Crux type penny introduced under Æthelred II as part of his monetary reform coinage.
