Reverse description Central cross pattée or plain cross dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a pellet or wedge ornament, consistent with the cross-and-wedges reverse type associated with Canterbury mint issues of this period. A beaded inner circle frames the central motif, with the moneyer's legend +DVDDA MONETA arranged in the surrounding annular field. The die engraving is bold but irregular, reflecting the hand-crafted nature of hammered coinage. The reverse design follows the standard formulaic layout of mid-9th century Anglo-Saxon pennies attributable to the moneyer Dudda.
