| Reverse description | A long double-armed cross divides the field into four quarters, with each arm terminating in a globe-shaped (bullet) finial, a distinctive feature of this issue. Each quarter contains a letter of the abbreviated legend HOL x, referring to Holland. The cross extends to a beaded inner border, and the overall composition is characteristic of the simple yet bold reverse designs employed on medieval Flemish and Hollandish deniers of this period. |

Floris V was still a child during this striking period — born in 1254, he ruled under regency until around 1266, making coins issued in his name before that date among the earliest artifacts of a reign that would end with his kidnapping and murder in 1296. The "kopje" type, named for its small head design, belongs to a short transitional window in Hollandish coinage before more standardized regional penny types took over in the later 13th century.
