| Reverse description | The royal arms of Portugal, comprising a quartered shield bearing the traditional quinas (five escutcheons in cross formation, each charged with five bezants) at the centre and castles in the corners, all within a rectangular bordure, displayed prominently in the centre of the field. The shield is surmounted by a jewelled royal crown and flanked symmetrically on either side by ornate foliate and floral sprays issuing from a tied ribbon bow at the base. The reverse field is otherwise unlettered, with no peripheral legend, presenting a bold heraldic composition typical of late Portuguese Absolutist coinage. |
