| Obverse description | Draped bust of Queen Maria II facing left, her hair elaborately coiffed and pinned atop with a jewelled ornament, rendered in fine neoclassical style. The queen's décolletage is adorned with delicate lace or ruffled drapery, lending the portrait an air of regal elegance. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading MARIA·II·D·G·PORTUG·ET·ALGARB·REGINA, with the date 1834 inscribed at the base of the coin flanked by two small six-pointed stars. The portrait occupies most of the field, with the legend tightly fitted along the inner border of the reeded rim. |
