Reverse description The Portuguese royal arms displayed on an elaborate baroque escutcheon, comprising the central inescutcheon of five roundels in cross (the quinas) charged with bezants, surrounded by the bordure of seven castles, all set within a large ornamental cartouche of scrolling acanthus foliage. The crowned shield is surmounted by the Portuguese royal crown with cross finial, and the entire composition rests upon a foliate base, with no peripheral legend, leaving the field occupied entirely by the heraldic device.
