Reverse description Central field displays a cross pattee with small crosslets or pellets in each of the four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross, a design characteristic of the patac denomination issued under the Valois kings. The cross is boldly struck and occupies the majority of the reverse field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading SIT. NOMEN. DNI. BENEDITV., a devotional inscription meaning 'May the name of the Lord be blessed.' The irregular flan and variable strike are consistent with hammered billon production of the period.
