Obverse description Draped bust of Ardashir III facing right, wearing an elaborate mural crown characteristic of late Sasanian royal portraiture. The effigy is rendered in the typical high-relief hammered style of the period. Behind the royal bust, the Pahlavi inscription `ʾp̄zwn` (meaning `increase`) appears in the field, while before the bust the royal name `ʾrthštr` (Ardaxšēr, i.e. Ardashir) is inscribed. The design elements conform closely to the established Sasanian numismatic tradition of the early seventh century AD.
