| Obverse description | Central field bears a stylized Bohemian lion in low relief, rendered in the Gothic manner characteristic of mid-14th century Bohemian coinage. The figure is enclosed within a plain inner circle, beyond which runs a beaded border. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin letters reads KAROLUS PRIMUS, identifying the issuer as Charles I of Bohemia (later Emperor Charles IV). The flan is irregular and slightly scyphate, consistent with hand-hammered billon coinage of the period. Surface shows natural medieval wear and patination. |
