Additional information

Sebastiano di Monfalcone governed the Bishopric of Lausanne during a period of acute ecclesiastical crisis — his tenure coincided almost exactly with the opening years of the Reformation, and by 1536 the city of Lausanne had fallen to the Bernese, effectively ending Catholic episcopal coinage in the region altogether. This parpaiolle is among the final issues of an independent episcopal mint that had operated for centuries.

The type designation in HMZ places this firmly within a small and closely documented series.
