| Obverse description | Central field displays a pointed heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Lausanne, charged with a cross and accompanied by a sun and crescent moon in the flanking fields. Above the shield, a half-figure of the Madonna is depicted in frontal presentation, holding the Christ Child before her in a devotional pose typical of late medieval ecclesiastical coinage. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin characters runs along the inner edge of a beaded border. The overall composition reflects the Gothic artistic style prevalent in 15th-century Swiss episcopal minting. |
