Madho Rao Scindia died in 1886 at just seventeen years old, having ruled Gwalior under a British-supervised regency his entire life. This paisa was struck in the same year as his death, making it among the final — and possibly the last — issues produced under his name before the state transitioned to the reign of Madhav Rao II.
