Obverse description Central field dominated by a stylized lion passant in high relief, rendered in the characteristic Kadamba artistic idiom with exaggerated musculature and curvilinear decorative treatment. A large prominent pellet or globule occupies the lower central field beneath the lion's body. A small circular symbol, possibly a chakra or wheel motif, appears to the upper left of the lion. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, beyond which an outer band of scrolling foliate or floral ornament encircles the entire field, characteristic of South Indian medieval hammered coinage. The overall execution is vigorous and bold, typical of 11th-century Deccan gold coinage.
