| Obverse description | Three-quarter-length crowned effigy of Władysław IV Vasa facing right, richly attired in armour overlaid with an elaborate lace collar and regal regalia. The king holds a sceptre in his left hand and an orb surmounted by a cross in his right hand, conveying full royal authority. A jewelled royal crown sits upon his head, and his mantle and armour are rendered with exceptional baroque relief. The portrait is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with the Latin legend disposed around the periphery reading VLADISLAUS IIII D G REX POL & SUEC M DUX LITV RUS PRUS. The finely modelled bust reflects the high artistic standard of Gdańsk medallic coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. |
