Obverse description Armored and draped bust of John II Casimir Vasa facing right, wearing a crown adorned with jewels and a cross pattée at apex, with long flowing hair falling over elaborate plate armor with decorative pauldrons. The effigy is rendered in the Baroque portrait style characteristic of mid-17th-century Polish royal coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait within a beaded border, reading IOH CAS D G REX POL & SVE M D L R P R, abbreviated titles identifying the king as ruler of Poland, Sweden, and Grand Duke of Lithuania.

Reverse description The city arms of Elbing (Elbląg) displayed on an oval shield set within an ornate Baroque cartouche of scrolling acanthus foliage; the shield is divided horizontally, with the upper half bearing a two-towered city gate and the lower half bearing crossed anchors or civic devices. A cherub's or angel's head with wings appears above the crowned shield as a decorative crest. The date 1661 is split across the upper field flanking the crest, with the denomination mark 18 appearing at the sides of the cartouche. The circular Latin legend MON ARGENT CIVIT ELBINGENSIS surrounds the entire design within a beaded border, identifying this as a silver coin of the city of Elbing. Mint master initials N H appear in the legend.
