Reverse description The reverse is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend arranged in horizontal registers within a plain border, surrounded by a finely beaded outer rim. The inscription reads the royal titulature of Sultan Mahmud I: 'Sultan ul berreyn ve hakan ul bahreyn es sultan ibn es sultan' (Sultan of the two lands and Khagan of the two seas, Sultan son of Sultan). Decorative floral rosette devices punctuate the field between registers. The overall layout is characteristic of Ottoman billon coinage of the early eighteenth century.
