Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic toughra of Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III, rendered in the characteristic Ottoman imperial style with sweeping loops and vertical shafts. Below the toughra, a horizontal line separates the mint name and AH date inscription. The legend reads 'Struck in Tiflis 1115' in Arabic script. The entire design is enclosed within a finely beaded circular border.

Additional information

Ahmed III's accession in 1703 brought a brief window of Ottoman reassertion over the Caucasian client kingdoms, and the Kartlian coinage of 1704 reflects that moment directly. The onluk denomination — a Georgian adaptation of the Ottoman akçe-based system — was produced under the reign of Vakhtang VI as viceroy, whose political position required constant negotiation between Constantinople and the Safavid court in Isfahan.

Vakhtang would eventually convert from Islam back to Christianity and defect to Peter the Great in 1722, ending this particular monetary arrangement permanently.
