| Reverse description | An octopus rendered frontally in the center of the field, its bulbous mantle prominently displayed at the top and eight sinuous tentacles spreading outward and curling at the tips in a naturalistic composition. The creature fills the circular incuse field, which is deeply struck within a raised border, a format characteristic of Syracusan bronze fractions of the Second Democracy period. No inscription or legend appears in the field. The bold, stylized rendering of the octopus served as an emblematic maritime type for this denomination. |
