Reverse description A deep quadripartite incuse square dominates the reverse, divided into four equal rectangular compartments by raised ridges meeting at the centre, characteristic of early Macedonian and Thracian tribal coinage of the archaic period. The incuse is boldly struck and deeply recessed, with a plain, undecorated surface within each of the four sections. No legend or subsidiary device is present. The technique reflects the standard mill-sail or windmill pattern employed on contemporary octadrachms of the northern Aegean region.
