| Obverse description | Griffin seated left upon a rectangular base decorated with an egg-and-dart molding, the right foreleg raised in a heraldic pose; the creature is rendered in archaic style with carefully articulated wings and musculature. A lotus flower occupies the left field, serving as a decorative adjunct to the principal device. The composition is characteristic of the earliest Abderite coinage, reflecting strong Ionian artistic influences inherited from the city's Teian founders.
