Reverse description Deep quadripartite incuse square divided by raised ridges into four recessed compartments of approximately equal size, each quadrant exhibiting a roughly granular surface texture resulting from the hammering technique. The incuse is centrally positioned on the reverse field, with the outer border showing the characteristic irregular flan edge typical of early archaic Greek coinage. No legend or subsidiary devices are present. This simple incuse reverse is a hallmark of the earliest issues of Abdera, datable to circa 490 BC.
