Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip I (Philippus Arabs) facing right, depicted with a short beard. The emperor wears a radiate crown with pronounced spikes, a paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, and segmented cuirass. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is rendered in the robust, expressive style characteristic of Syrian provincial bronze coinage of the mid-third century AD.
