Obverse description A sword depicted vertically in the central field, point downward, enclosed within an inner beaded circle. A circular Latin legend runs in the outer annular field between the inner beaded circle and an outer border, reading +IMPVRIAR, referring to the County of Empúries. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered medieval Catalan coinage.

Reverse description A plain cross with a small annulet or pellet in each of the four angles, centrally positioned within an inner beaded circle. A circular Latin legend runs in the outer annular field between the inner beaded circle and an outer beaded border, reading :VGO:COMES, identifying the issuer as Hugo (Hugh), Count. The style is consistent with 13th-century Catalan feudal hammered coinage.
