Reverse description A floriated cross occupies the central field, its four arms terminating in fleurs-de-lis, emblematic of Capetian royal iconography. The arms of the cross extend to the inner border, dividing the surrounding circular legend into four quadrants in the manner typical of French medieval petit monnaie issues. The legend + MONETA NOVA identifies this as a new coinage issue (nova moneta). The execution throughout reflects the hammered technique standard for French billon issues of the early fourteenth century.
