| Obverse description | A plain cross with slightly expanded arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The royal legend CΛRLVS REX is distributed around the periphery in large, somewhat roughly formed Carolingian capitals, reading clockwise. The flan is irregular and of typical hammered character, with moderate relief throughout. The entire design is characteristic of the Carolingian royal coinage type issued under Charles II (the Bald). |
