Obverse description Irregular, highly convex flan exhibiting a broad, abstracted raised boss occupying the central field, characteristic of the Celtic schematization of a human or divine head reduced to a single dominant relief mass. The surface shows the rough texture typical of hand-struck Celtic small silver coinage, with no legible inscription or secondary devices. The flan edges are uneven and ragged, consistent with hand-cut planchet preparation.

Additional information

The Boii occupied a broad swath of central Europe before Roman and Germanic pressure fractured their territory in the 1st century BC. Roseldorf, in what is now Lower Austria, functioned as a major Celtic sanctuary site where votive deposits have yielded dense concentrations of these small silver fractions — suggesting a ritual rather than purely commercial role for at least some of the surviving examples.
