Obverse description Four-line uncial inscription arranged horizontally across the field, reading the name of the issuing duke. The legend is divided into two registers separated by a horizontal line, with the letters of RICARDVS distributed across the flan in a crude but characteristic Aquitainian hammered style. The coin exhibits the irregular, slightly concave flan typical of twelfth-century feudal billon issues, with the lettering occupying virtually the entire obverse field.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)

Reverse description A cross pattée occupies the centre of the reverse field, with the arms extending toward the edge of the flan. The surrounding circular legend, interrupted by the cross arms, reads AGVITANIE in uncial characters, attributing the issue to Aquitaine. The hammered flan is markedly irregular in outline, and the design elements show the characteristic crudeness of feudal workshop production, with some letter forms partially off-flan due to the small module of the obol denomination.
