Obverse description Plain cross pattée occupying the central field, with a single pellet or annulet placed in the second (upper-right) quarter. The surrounding legend, rendered in uncial characters, reads partially as PETRVS [...] OCIA, identifying the issuing lord Peter I of Sainte-Sévère. The flan is small and irregular, typical of hammered medieval billon coinage, with the legend partially off-flan on this example. The die engraving is bold but worn, consistent with the crude artistic style of minor French feudal issues of the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries.
