Obverse description The obverse bears the emperor's name LVDOVVIC (Ludovicus) inscribed in two horizontal lines across the field in bold, well-spaced capital letters, filling the entire flan. The legend is rendered in a characteristic Carolingian epigraphic style, with the name divided as LVDO on the upper line and VVIC on the lower line. The coin is struck on an irregular, slightly uneven flan typical of hammered silver issues of the period. No border or additional decorative element surrounds the inscription.
