| Obverse description | The name of the ruler LVDOVVIC (Ludovicus, i.e. Louis) is inscribed in two horizontal lines across the field in bold capital letters, divided as LVD / OVVIC, with a small pellet or annulet visible between the first two letter groups. The lettering is characteristic of early Carolingian hammered coinage, rendered in a slightly irregular but deliberate hand. No border or additional decorative element frames the inscription. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of hand-struck silver obols of the period. |
