Obverse description Facing bust of King Henry I in low relief, rendered in the crude stylized manner characteristic of early medieval hammered coinage. The king is depicted with a beaded or diademed head, facing forward, with simplified facial features. The circular legend surrounding the bust reads HEINRICVS REX, introduced by a cross pattée. The overall fabric is irregular, typical of hand-struck Carolingian-tradition deniers.
