| Reverse description | Reverse bears a multi-line Latin inscription distributed across the field, referencing Frederick II (Federicus II) in his capacity as Holy Roman Emperor (Imperator), characteristic of imperial coinage struck at Pavia during his reign. The legend is divided into segments reading FE / RIC / N R / + INPERA with the mint name PAPI(A) incorporated, all executed in the crude letter-forms typical of Lombard hammered silver of the first half of the 13th century. The flan is irregular and the strike uneven, resulting in portions of the inscription being weak or off-flan. The field shows no pictorial device, the inscription itself serving as the primary design element. Surface patination is heavy, consistent with prolonged burial or extended circulation. |
