Obverse description A stylized leopard passant facing left occupies the central field, rendered in the crude, schematic manner typical of Aquitainian billon coinage of the late 13th century. The beast is depicted with dotted or pellet ornamentation, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The peripheral legend in uncial Latin characters reads EDVVARDVS REX, identifying the issuer as King Edward. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped, characteristic of hammered small denomination coinage of this period.
