Obverse description Central cross with a pellet in each of the four quarters, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The royal legend surrounds the central motif in the outer field, rendered in crude but legible Carolingian lettering characteristic of late 9th- to early 10th-century hammered coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the periphery, typical of hand-struck obols of this period. The design follows the standard Carolingian cross-and-legend type established under Charles the Bald and continued by his successors.

Reverse description The mint name TVLLO, denoting the city of Toul in Lorraine, is inscribed across the field in a single horizontal line in large, bold Carolingian capital letters. The lettering occupies the majority of the reverse field with minimal additional decoration, consistent with the simplified reverse design typical of Carolingian obols struck at episcopal mints. The flan is irregular and the strike slightly off-center, as is common for hand-hammered issues of this denomination and era. The plain, unadorned field surrounding the inscription reflects the economical design conventions of minor Carolingian silver coinage.
